Q & A with Artist Jade Fisher

Q & A with Artist Jade Fisher

House of Wellington x Jade Fisher Blossom Blends collaboration

Late last year we reached out to Jade with the proposition of collaborating with us on an exciting collection concept. I have been a huge fan of Jade's artwork for the longest time, and couldn't think of anyone I wanted to embark on this collaboration journey with more so than her.

Jade creates artwork with playful colour pallets, that showcase her love of both abstract-contemporary painting style, and botanicals, so we know that our Blossom Blends concept teamed with her artwork would be the perfect fit.

So in line with the release of our delightful new collection, we sat down with the Gerringong-based Artist, to talk all things art, life and future plans. Read on to learn a bit more about the woman and artwork behind our new Blossom Blends Collection.

Q & A
Is painting something that has always come naturally to you, or is it something you have had to work on to perfect your style and technique?
I used to paint when I was at Art College and I really enjoyed it . But then I went to study textile design at University so I didn't do a lot of painting and focused more on working with yarns and print. After Uni, I had a 15 year career as a fashion designer so I didn't really have much time to paint.
I have definitely had to work on perfecting my technique. It's been a journey to find my particular style. I'm still learning every day.

You have a really unique style that is definitely a signature to your paintings. How would you describe your art/painting style?
I'd describe it as abstract botanical. You can see they are inspired by florals but the forms tend to take on a more abstract feel. It's also very much colour lead. The colour combinations are as important as the forms.
I often paint over and over in layers until I'm happy that the colours sit together beautifully in every section of the painting.

What's your favourite medium to work with?
Acrylic paints onto canvas or acrylic on wooden board.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Everyday nature and things I see. I'm always snapping photo's flowers, textures and patterns when we go out on walks

Do you have a career highlight so far? What is it?
Definitely my solo exhibition at Jumbled Online last year. It was such a challenge to get 22 pieces painted but I was so happy to see all my hard work come together at the end.

What can we expect to see from you in the future in terms of your artwork?
I'm currently working on some fun still life paintings where I've been experimenting with new textures and bringing in lots of pattern

Since you've had access to the entire Blossom Blends Collection prior to its release, we would love for you to share with our readers which of the 4 new Blossom Blends candle is your favourite, and why?
That’s a hard one….. but if I had to pick just one, it would have to be the Magnolia Peach & Peppermint. I really love the smell. It's soft, but then it's mixed with mint, which gives it a really fresh and unique twist. It really is good!!
If you could say one thing to your artist-self 10 years ago, what would it be?
I'd say...'if you never try, you'll never know'
I'd also say....’learn how to work instagram so you can keep up with all the cool kids’... lol.
